The Qatar Innovation Community is a national collaboration platform to accelerate innovation across Qatar and create new solutions for the FIFA World Cup™ and beyond, which will not only enhance the customer experience, but also generate sustainable global start-ups, effective investments, international knowledge and world-class talent to improve the global positioning and competitiveness of Qatar in the world.

The QIC will prioritise home-grown innovations and create an enabling environment, including effective stakeholder collaboration. The initiative has four strategic goals:

  1. Contribute to Qatar’s socioeconomic development plans through the identification and commercialisation of new businesses
  2. Enhance the Qatari brand through innovative solutions in key sectors, including sport and event management industries
  3. Establish effective enabling mechanisms to support innovation across Qatar
  4. Establish an effective stakeholder collaboration framework to enhance Qatar’s innovation ecosystem

Twenty organisations make up the QIC

  • Government: Aspire Academy, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Qatar Chamber of Commerce, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Rail, Qatar Science and Technology Park, Qatar Tourism Authority and Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy
  • Academia: Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Josoor Institute, Qatar Foundation and Qatar University
  • Industry: Al Jazeera, Ooredoo, Qatar Airways and Techniche
  • Financial Institutions: Qatar Development Bank, Qatar Financial Centre and Qatar National Bank
  • Entrepreneurship: Qatar Business Incubation Centre

TechNiche UK were awarded membership in 2018 as the first international and private company to gain membership for their work developing and designing AirCool Workwear for the FIFA Qatar world cup construction sites.
